If you're not familiar with Doctor Who, the main character (The Doctor), is from a long-lived alien race. When their bodies are stressed, overaged, or damaged severely, they regenerate - sort of a reboot. They come back with a different appearance and some personality changes, but all their memories. It's an excuse to have different actors play the character.

I 100% reccomend renting the season 1 DVDs if you get Netflix or they're at a blockbuster or something. It's an experience - AND the actor for the revival signed on only one year, so you get a "regeneration" in the storyline!
